I was in Spain I've heard it's a lovely country, which part did you go to? I haven't been around very much between exams and other things though I should think you'll see me around a bit more now.

Well, from a personal point of view, the clique stuff definitely doesn't help other people get involved. It doesn't bother me, but I'm sure it puts off other members when they come to the forum and all they see are insider jokes and what not. But if you kill that, you kill OTW. I'd hardly come anymore if the rules were anything like PBS.

I'm sorry if I don't see how noticing how most of the members on the forum being friends will put people off joining, but maybe that's just me...

There's nothing wrong being friends but when friends only talk to friends and about things that are only understandable to them, you have to agree, it isn't the nicest environment to be in if you're not in that clique.

I don't know, I don't think there's necessarily a "clique" as such, just that some members are more active than others. If they decide to join and are active then they'll start to understand the "in jokes" imo If you were there, Beware - Arctic Monkeys

to be fair:
this place is a little cliquey. i've been a member here for a long time and i still don't really talk to anyone here outside the walls of this forum........ HAHAHA.
anyways.
the reason i always appear/disappear is because this forum will pick up in activity, but then dilutes into a few select threads hundreds of pages long in which everyone posts in on a daily basis. i'm not really into the discussion of music (kinda stupid i'm here, amirite?), which is why i didn't really care that i got demoted (i really actually hated being the mod of rap/hip hop).
however, that's another story. the point i'm trying to make is other than near nonexistent music discussion (i have no idea if this has changed in the past couple months or not), there is [was] a lack of good general discussion. it is [was] nothing but posts containing youtube videos and inside jokes. again, i have no idea if this has changed or not but this is the reason for my latest stint of not coming here.
whether anyone actually wants to recognize this or not is not in my hands nor do i care, but you can obviously see it drove one member away. however, i feel like this place is going to turn into another SSD.oscar the grouch - the cool kids

but do you remember all the work i did in rap/hip hop before i was a mod and how almost nobody responded to it? it's not active enough here to force content, and i think that problem is partially because of the whole inner circle vibe i get.

I remember that, and that's what's happening with D&E right now. It's like pushing boulders uphill. We manage to get more activity and replies than... some forums But still I think that the clique, when it is apparent, is centred in the General forum and the Music Chat is restricted to the Music sections.

The inactivity we are experiencing is mainly due to the fact that everybody here has distinct music taste. I mean, I know that's the whole point of OTW--to share and discuss many different type of music, but its just each of us fail to contribute to anything we don't listen to or care about. So the only possible solution is to either compress the music boards (which defeats the whole purpose of OTW) or to hunt for more members.

Unfortunately, I know jack shit about music. I know what I like, but that doesn't mean I know why I like it.
In terms of musical discussion there isn't much that I can add apart from the off "This band is fucking awesome".

oh and if you couldnt figure it out yourself
the music boards (combined obviously) DO have more posts than the general boards lmao. maybe if we merged the rap, rock, etc boards into a "music" board then had the "misc" board for other stuff like the musicians board. it'd take a lot of organizing but.. i dunno. it'd make it look like we discuss music a whole lot more.
